Chiropractic

Chiropractors treat a range of musculoskeletal conditions involving the spine and extremities. Manual manipulation adjustments can range from the traditional high velocity low amplitude (HVLA) to low force joint mobilizations with no thrust. Instruments such as an activator, IQ tool, drop piece and blocks can also be utilized for effective treatment of musculoskeletal conditions, based on the patient’s presentation and preference. The initial treatments will focus on pain/symptom relief for the presenting complaint and improving mobility. Subsequent treatments will focus on correcting causes of the condition by way of assessing potential factors such as posture, ergonomic setup, and repetitive work-related activities. Continuing maintenance care is recommended to maintain optimum health and function to carry out activities of daily living with minimal to no disruption.

Chiropractic

Chiropractors are primary contact practitioners, so you do not need a referral from a GP. For chronic conditions, however, GP’s can refer patients to chiropractors under the Medicare Chronic Disease Management program (formerly Enhanced Primary care / EPC), or for veterans under the Department of Veterans’ Affairs (DVA).

Depending on the reason for visiting the chiropractor and the severity of the condition, treatment plans can vary and are specialised to the individual.

If the presenting condition is outside the scope of chiropractic care, or if it needs to be co-managed with other health care professionals, chiropractors will refer to an appropriate provider as required.
